Published in 2008, Satoshi Nakamoto's Bitcoin whitepaper set the stage for a new era in money & the exchange of value. Spanning the value spectrum, there's no better way to commemorate the currency of the digital age than with precious metals, money that's stood the test of time.
In 2008, Cryptologist "Satoshi Nakamoto" published "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System", setting the stage for what would become the most valuable private currency the world had ever seen. Igniting an entirely new industry of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, the combined value of Bitcoin and its copycats was more than three-quarters of a trillion dollars by the time Satoshi's publication turned 10 years old.
2018 was a long year for the fledgling currency. Its first few years passed in relative obscurity, followed by a few years of ups and downs. Bitcoin took the world by storm in 2017, jumping in value by a factor of 20 and reaching hearts and minds worldwide. The digital gold rush encouraged even the least techie folks to get involved. But as the saying goes, the bigger the party, the worse the hangover, and 2018 saw nearly all those record-breaking gains erased.
But Bitcoin isn't one to give up. It's seen bubbles before, and the community of die-hard blockchain advocates remains unphased in its pursuit of an alternative to the fractional money & banking system that dictates monetary policy worldwide.
For the first few years of its life, Bitcoin had little to show in the way of an iconic image that could help newcomers bridge the mental gap between physical money and digital currency. That all changed in 2011 when MJB, in partnership with the American Open Currency Standard, designed and coined the very first bitcoin "coin", a physical representation of the digital asset. The minted coin quickly became the quintessential image for the entire cryptocurrency industry.
As Bitcoin enters its second decade, the time couldn't be better for a brand upgrade. MJB's new 10th Anniversary design celebrates the challenges that Bitcoin's overcome, and sets the stage for what will surely be another exciting ten years of growth & exploration.
